Mr Matthew Waites is a highly regarded trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based in West Birmingham. He specialises in total knee replacement, total hip replacement, and partial knee replacement with over ten years’ experience in performing these procedures. Mr Waites has a special interest in enhanced recovery and consistently offers great results for his patients.
Mr Waites graduated in medicine from the renowned St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London. He completed higher surgical training on the well-regarded London, South West Thames training rotation through St George’s Hospital becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics. He completed a research fellowship at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, USA. This later followed with a clinical fellowship in joint replacement surgery and knee sports injuries in Sydney, Australia.
Between 2014 and 2017, Mr Waites served as the clinical director for surgical specialities at the Dudley Group of Hospitals. Mr Waites continues to use his breadth of experience to teach surgical trainees and allied health professionals. Mr Waites is passionate about providing optimised care, enabling patients to recover rapidly and achieve high functional outcomes with minimised post-operative pain. Mr Waites is an active member of the British Association of Surgery of the Knee, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the British Orthopaedic Association. He also collaborates and participates in research studies continue to develop and improve joint replacement surgery.
