Professional statement
Dr Sarah Gray is an experienced general practitioner who has developed a specialist role in women’s health and now leads St Erme Medical. She provides care through the adolescent and adult lifespan. Though best known for work in menopause she has expertise in all aspects of women’s health including contraception, menstrual disorders, premenstrual syndrome, vaginal problems and prolapse.
Dr Gray has particular expertise in patients with medically complex conditions and for 15 years ran an NHS specialist women's health clinic. This was decommissioned in 2016, due to a lack of funding for such specialist menopause services. Since then, she has developed this role in the independent sector. In 2019 she founded St Erme Medical, a practice in Cornwall. This now has its own premises and a team-oriented approach to offering a broad range of services in Cornwall, Plymouth and Exeter. She has retired from the NHS after 36 years.
In addition to her clinical work she has served on the British Menopause Society Council and is still a director of the Primary Care Women’s Health Forum. She helped to develop guidance for NICE on managing heavy periods. She is currently assisting in the production of a guide for clinicians managing menopausal patients who have had cancer.
Dr Gray is committed to developing quality teaching and training for healthcare professionals. She lectures nationally and internationally and contributes to publications for both clinical and public audiences. Dr Gray has shared her expertise on various media platforms, including LBC, Times Radio and Radio Cornwall, Five Live, Women's Hour, and the Victoria Derbyshire show for the BBC.
